My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So far January has delivered all sorts of tasty enemies/rivals to lovers, and The Ex Talk might just take the cake. And I love cake.

Shay Goldstein is a great radio producer. She knows public radio inside and out and has devoted 10 years of her life to it. What she isn’t is the host of a public radio show, even if that’s always been her dream. But that all changes when she comes up with the perfect idea for a new show: The Ex Talk. A relationship show, but hosted by exes.

And who better to host the show? None other than Shay and Mr. I-have-a-masters-in-journalism-and-that’s-about-it Dominic Yun. Her office rival. Never mind that they never actually dated and can barely stand each other. He’s too young, too tall, and way too sure of himself. Neither Shay or Dominic are super thrilled with the idea of lying to listeners or working together. However, when their boss makes it clear their jobs may be on the line, they agree. Which….eh. (Insert gif of John Mulaney saying “You have the moral backbone of a chocolate éclair” here.)

But all is not fair in fake love and radio shows. Because what was supposed to be fake – and over – starts to feel all too real as Shay and Dominic spend more time together and discover that perhaps the person you think you can’t stand turns out to be the person you can’t stand to be without.

The Ex Talk was the definition of swoony! I loved the slow unthawing of Shay and Dominic as they first became friends, then lovers, and eventually partners. Also, this book is hot. I love a good romcom with some fantastic sex. And the neck kisses. The forearms. It was like my own personal brand of catnip.

This was a definite win for me, from the banter between Shay and Dominic to Shay’s relationship with public radio, her mother, her best friend, and change.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
