Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh my stars! This book! I haven’t both laughed and cried so much while reading a book…ever? Written in the Stars was funny, sweet, nerdy, absolutely tropetastic and pretty much perfect.

Written in the stars gives several nods to Pride & Prejudice – Oh hi Elle, the free spirited “mess” and Darcy, the uptight “snob” – but I loved that it wasn’t a P&P retelling. I saw so much of myself in Elle (I mean I’m not a bad ass entrepreneur but I do decorate with command strip hooks sooo) and I loved that both she and Darcy were high-key nerdy. There was a definite sense of Elle bringing out the best in Darcy and vice versa rather than either needing to change for the other. Which, really, is the only way an opposites attract, the-grumpy-one-loves-the-sunshiny-one should be.

Elle and Darcy were an incredible match, but the amazing secondary characters really solidified the book as one of my top reads of 2020. I adored Brendon, Darcy’s brother/Elle’s business partner (whose book is next!) and Margot, Elle’s best friend/roommate/co-founder (who better get her own book!). Brendon is a starry eyed romantic who just wants Darcy to be happy and Margot is the kind of best friend every single person needs.

Alexandria Bellefleur has written a marvelous debut in Written in the Stars and I can’t wait to read more from her!

CW: Toxic parenting and cheating (MC doesn’t do the cheating and it is previous to book’s start).

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
