Cat Sebastian is truly a master at crafting stories and characters that are wonderfully real and raw. In A Delicate Deception, Amelia is facing the reality of living with severe anxiety, while Sydney is mourning the loss of his brother, whom he believes was the “likeable” brother. But this is not a story about love “fixing” everything. Amelia is not less-than because of her anxiety, and Sydney’s dick is not a magic wand that suddenly cures her mental illness. The beauty of the story is in the way Amelia and Sydney work together to discover their own way to happiness – one that doesn’t include a traditional marriage or living together, but does include love, happiness, and the people who matter most to them.
I’ve been looking forward to learning more about Amelia since Unmasked by the Marquess and was delighted when I discovered she was getting her own book! Right off the bat I knew I was going to love her. I laughed so hard at the extreme annoyance she felt toward Sydney for interrupting her walks at the beginning of the book because GIRL, SAME. Plus, as usual, Sebastian filled the story with amazing characters in Amelia’s friend and companion Georgiana, Sydney’s friend and ex-lover Lex, a newly discovered niece, a per-the-usual grumpy Keating, and (squee!) a visit from Robin.
Now, if you don’t mind I’ll be sitting in hopeful wait for a little more Lex, Keating and Georgiana.
